Houseplants and Your Air

It is still winter (at least where I live) and the house is still all closed up. ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! but there is light at the end of the stale aired tunnel – Houseplants! Not just any kind of houseplants but air purifying houseplants.  NASA started researching the possibility of purifying  indoor air with plants for the different space facilities in the late 1980’s and found that there are some species of plants that actually filter out VOC (volatile organic compounds)

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) states that these VOCs are 2-5 times higher inside our homes.  These compounds are found in household products that we use: paints, waxes, and varnishes.  Where are these found? they are found in our cleaning products, cosmetics, and hobby projects to name a few.

So now what do we do? Now we have to use a respirator indoors!!!!  Noooooooooooo, we just need to add plants that suck those VOCs right up and say thank you to NASA 🙂 Lets bring spring inside and breathe easy with these lovely houseplants.  It is also a good idea to have three plants for every person in the house.  In my house we have myself and my honey so that should be six plants in every room for optimal purification! It is time for me to get busy and get some green growing in this place!!
